Tim Deegan Is The Next Much Music VJ!

America's Next Top Model

Much Music VJ Search

Much Music VJ

I VOTED FOR TIM DEEGAN!

Why did I vote for him?

First off, I am straight. It was important for me, and my sense of self to state that.

Now onto the reason why.

1. Girls : Girls love him. I think it's good that they love him. Why? Onto reason 2.

2.Confidence : He exudes a calm confidence which I believe is an important example for young people. You can be confident being a young person who is not studying medicine, or law, or science. You can be a confidnet, bright eyed young person hosting shows about celebrity romances. Doing so doesn't change who you are and the globaly-consientious things you do with your own celebrity status when the cameras aren't rolling.

3. Kindness : You can be a confident, handsome, male and still be genuinely kind. I sense that Tim is that kind of guy; the proceeds from the concert he gave in his hometown were all for a local women's shelter (just to garner points for his vj bid? hey man, you gotta believe.).

Why Do People Watch Much Music?

or any other music/entertainment station?

I can tell you why I watch.

1. Beautiful People : Physical beauty attracts me.

2. Bright/Colorful : The attractive presentation with its striking colors allures me.

3. Stories : Stories about other people, other people who seem to be doing interesting and exciting things. Human beings learn about their environment through experience (like animals), but also through abstraction (hence: stories).

Reality TV Shows

I didn't used to watch reality tv shows, but, I am starting to find that they do have genuine value.

Not just genuine value, but, I say that they are contributing to the betterment of the human race.

"The most fascinating things for human beings are: other human beings."

The advent of the reality tv show has been a very important step in the evolution of a human society which has an insatiable need to know about its fellows and fillies.

Cliff Bars : Buy From A Company Which Cares

Short History : David's Healthy Lifestyle

I started weight training regularly last year after my experience with tree planting showed me that I needed to build muscle mass to prevent further injuring myself in the physically intensive jobs I enjoy.

My bright little brother Rob introduced to me to Bill Philip's : Body For Life program (which he had been introduced to from a nice fellow at the gym, who had been introduced to it from another fellow or filly, who...).

The program is great.
One of the things I learned was that the body needs to be fed constantly, throughout the day.
I now eat 6-8 meals a day, 2-3 hours apart.

Another thing I learned about was: protein.
The body needs from about 0.8-1.8/g of protein per every kg of weight.
The more you workout, the more protein you need to repair torn muscle tissue.
I give myself a generous 120 g of protein a day, if not more.
More protein doesn't hurt, it just gets flushed out (although eating 6-8 big steaks a day makes my stomach lurch at the thought).

Working and Protein

While working, it sure was tough to get enough protein.

Solution?

1. Protein Shakes in Thermos
2. Protein Bars
3. Two Sandwiches : 1 with egg and 1 with chicken breast

MLO Bio Protein Bars

At Costco, I looked for the protein bar with the highest protein count.
That was Bio Protein with a big 21 grams.
I bought a carton a week for a year and a half.
Until I watched a documentary on the CBC called Big Sugar and learned that High Fructose Corn Syrup is a cheaper alternative to sugar which is even worse.

High Fructose Corn Sick

Corn syrup is made from: corn.
Corn is sweet so it has sugar, but getting the sugar out of the corn requires a lot of processing, A LOT of processing.
And, PROCESSING = BAD.
Which is why margarine and refined salt are bad.

Corn syrup has addictive qualities (like sugar).
Is surprisingly cheaper to produce.
Suppresses appetitite making the body still feel hungry.

Coca-Cola uses HFCS.
'Nuff said.

Here Comes The Cliff Bar!

70% organic.
How sweetened?
Evaporated Cane Juice and Brown Rice Syrup.
Cane juice is made from sugar cane, but there is no PROCESSING in big, unatural factories with smoke stacks belching polution into the air.
Salt, yes?
Sea Salt.

I am sold on Cliff bars and on the company which sells them.

Cliff to Dave : Emails

Here's a copy of email messages I've exchanged with a fellow who works with Cliff bars.

Re: Quantity of Protein

I buy MLO Bio Protein Bars from Costco.
They have 21 grams of protein per bar.
I eat 6-8 meals a day, 1 meal every 2 hours.
I have gotten into the habit of making sure I have a minimum of 20 grams of protein per meal.
I think it works.
I feel better than I did when I was eating only 3 meals a day, more alert, more aware, just generally better.

1. Could you increase the amount of protein in Cliff bars to 20 grams?
a. Why did you choose ~ 10 grams of protein for cliff bars?

My local Costco did offer Cliff bars, and I while I was rock climbing I used to down a cliff bar once in a while, but I just thought that the amount of protein the bar had was too low.

A 100 gram piece of chicken breast has 20 grams of protein.
My favorite rice bowl with chicken from Costco has plus 20 grams of protein.
The yogurt/cottage cheese snack I like has 20 grams of protein.
20 grams of protein is stuck in my head.

That said, I like Cliff's image better than MLO.
You guys seem nicer, and not monolithic.
You use evaporated cane juice.

2. Is cane juice waaaaayyyy better than corn syrup (bio protein uses it)?
a. Why's it better?

I write to Costco often asking for what I want.
I think I'd like to switch from MLO to Cliff, but the 20 grams of protein is really big with me.

Ultimately, I'd really appreciate your thoughts.
From the bar and the website I say you guys seem pretty nice.

Hi David,
Thanks for taking the time to email us here at Clifbar&Co. We feel that Clif Bars have just the right mix of carbohydrates, protein, and fiber. Clif bar is a moderate glycemic index food. What does this mean? Basically, you'll benefit from a steady increase in blood sugar levels followed by a gradual decline (sustained energy!).
Eat a Clif Bar 1 – 2 hours before a workout or race, and you’ll avoid the sugar high and crash associated with refined ingredients and sweeteners. Clif Bar delivers the boost you need without the unwanted crash and burn.

We answered consumer’s requests for a bar with a higher protein amount with a product called Builder’s which is a 20 gram soy protein bar: http://www.clifbar.com/eat/eat.cfm?location=builders. Unfortunately this product is not available in Canada, however if you are planning a trip to the U.S., I recommend stocking up on them while you are here.

In answer to your 2nd question: Yes cane juice is better then corn syrup. There are many differences between high fructose corn syrup and evaporated cane juice. High fructose corn syrup comes from genetically modified corn, is highly processed, and metabolized differently that other sugars, which makes it suspect in obesity and elevate cholesterol levels. Additionally, high fructose corn syrup is over used as a cheap and easy way to add flavor to foods. This practice has lead people simply over consumer high fructose corn syrup.

Evaporated cane juice and brown rice syrup are the two sweeteners in our products. We choose theses sources because they are available organically, which means they are not grown with harmful chemicals and grown through sustainable practices that are better for us, the planet, and the farm workers. Evaporated cane juice is the least processed sugar out there. Neither brown rice syrup nor evaporated cane juice go through processing that is a result of a chemically forced rearrangement of the compound. Also, by using natural and organic ingredients we are able to better balance naturally occurring flavors from the ingredients like cocoa and peanut butter for better taste without overcompensating with extra sugar.

Dear Jeff:I wrote MLO and told them that I will no longer be buying Bio Proteinbars after more than a year of doing so every week.I told them I do not like: corn syrup, sugar, palm kernel oil, enriched white flour, in a bar I eat every day.I wished them luck on changing their product.I welcome myself to Cliff bars.I like Gary.Specifically I like Gary's note on the side of the carton (I buy proteinbars by the carton).I also live with my Mom and I'm 26.Loving parents are great.I will be one because my own have been so.I will promote Cliff bars to everyone I know.I already wrote to Costco to request that they continue to ship Cliffbars to the Nanaimo, BC, Canada store.Keep going guys.David.

Cliff

Hi David,
We are thrilled to hear that you have switched to our protein bars.
Iwanted to mention that Builder's do contain a small amount offractionated palm kernel oil. In order to have a chocolate coating thatis solid at room temperature, one of the following groups of ingredientsis necessary:
1. Hydrogenated oils - fats that have been chemically changed tobe solid at room temperature, and the source of trans fats
2. Saturated fats - like palm kernel oil. Fractionation is theseparation of the liquid components of the fat from the more solid partsof the fat at room temperature.
3. Waxes - are not digestible.
Builder's Bars have a moderate amount (4.5 - 5 grams) of saturated fatfrom fractionated palm kernel oil, and can definitely fit within thedietary guidelines of the American Heart Association. Builder's Barsdo not contain any trans fats. The American Heart Association and the National Cholesterol EducationProgram recommend the following eating pattern to reduce the risk ofhigh blood cholesterol:
* Total fat intake should be less than 25-30% of calories
* Saturated fat intake should be less than 10% of calories
* Cholesterol intake should be no more than 300 mg per dayIf you have any questions or comments please contact me atmailto:atjhantman@clifbar.com.

Dave

Dear Jeff:
Bought my 3rd carton of Cliff bars this past Sunday.
My family buys a carton of protein bars a week.
While I was getting the carton, I saw a fellow perusing the other varieties of protein bars available.
I decided to help him out, and I told him that, simply put, Cliff bars are the best bars to buy.
Why?
I pointed these ingredients out on the other bars Costco sells.
1. Power Bars: High Fructose Corn Syrup
2. Genisoy: Corn Syrup
3. Bio Protein Bars: Corn Syrup
4. Rebar: Negligible Protein (but a nice bar which I like)
5. Slimfast: Salt and Sugar
6. Zone Perfect: Corn Syrup
And other bars which I don't recall.
I pointed out to him that Cliff bars were 70% organic and that factor alone made the bar better.
I also noticed that his Mom was with him and he was an older fellow, so I told him to read the side of the package to learn a bit about Gary.
He thanked me and put a carton in his cart.
Thanks for all the info Jeff about the Builder Bars.
I use Protein Powder after my workouts and the Cliff bars are a once a day meal for me (I eat 6-8 meals a day).
I don't forsee a need for Builder Bars in the near future; however, if they were at Costco, I would buy them in lieu of Cliff.
Thanks for the great bar!
P.S : Did you see the cover story on Time magazine?
Global Warming can't be ignored anymore.
I'm thinking about making a shirt I can show off while I'm riding around on my bike which would read,
"Go Green, Be Lean, Be Fit To Be Seen"
If I do get a car, it will be a hybrid.
I've also written a letter to the Minister of Environment for British Columbia suggesting that styrofoam packaging be banned in B.C.
I was cleaning out the garage and recycling tons of stuff, finding tons of stuff to donate or sell, and I found a lot of styrofoam, which has no place but the landfill.
I don't like that, so I did a little something about it.
Just a little aside to let you know a bit about who's eating Cliff.
Take Care,
David Julio Wang

Conclusion

I would just like to see my fellow human beings eating healthily.
I would also like to see companies which use unhealthy products, not be supported.

Cliff bar has my support.

The Internet Will Save Humanity

The Internet Will Save Humanity

I feel that.

When I hear about what people are using the internet for,
When I see what human beings create whom I never would have been aware of without the facility of communication the internet allows for,
When I witness the smoother and smoother blending of thought and form, idea and sensation which the internet acts as a medium for,

I feel that the internet will save humanity.
